KORSHI T TALKS TO S3KYEREWAA ABOUT GELEM EP & HIS JOURNEY
Korshi T is one of the budding singers on the scene, consistently building a core fan base. He sat down with colleague singer S3kyerewaa to discuss his new EP titled “Gelem” and more.
S3kyerewaa : Glad to have time to chop it up, congratulations on your new project.
Korshi T : Thank you. have you listened yet?
S3kyerewaa : Yes I have, it's beautiful but first let’s start with the basic questions for people who may not know you, tell us about yourself. Where are you from and would you say it influences your music?
Korshi T : Korshi T is a Ghanaian singer/songwriter who fuses highlife music, afrobeats and pop. You know, I am from Keta, but we moved a lot and changed schools as well. Yeah the different sounds heard during those times influenced my music.
S3kyerewaa : So who would you say are your musical influences?
Korshi T : At a point I listened to a lot of Ed Sheeran, Kendrick Lamar, Samini, Lucky Dube, FuGeeLa, Ghanaian gospel, Highlife as a genre. You name it.
S3kyerewaa : I see! What got you into music and have you always wanted to do music or is it something that just happened?
Korshi T : So my mom is a singer, she sings so well. When I was young she used to send me to get CD’s for her and also played a lot of music around where I picked up a lot of melodies. I also played drums in church as well, so I’ll say that's what got me into music. But as far as being a recording artist, at a point in time I just was able to record music and people loved it, so kind of just went on from there.
S3kyerewaa : Tell us about your new project Gelem. What does Gelem mean?
Korshi T : Gelem simply means uncut diamonds, uncut diamonds are rare but if you find them they’re valuable and that’s what I think the songs on Gelem are, they’re rare but if you find them, you’ve found something good that you can you live by. I mean they’re songs in there like Prayer, Joy, Grace as well, Fuji is also one of a kind, Night Vision is different and then even 92V which is the outro also sounds lit. So basically it’s just me dabbling in sound trying to understand how my music would affect me and also the world at large, so I decided to share this project.
S3kyerewaa : Do you have a favorite song on the EP?
Korshi T : Haha, no I don't have a favorite on the EP, all the songs are good. I mean these are the best songs that we are giving to you guys for now.
S3kyerewaa : Is there a song you love performing? It doesn’t have to be on Gelem.
Korshi T : Not sure. I am still mastering performing arts. I have got a lot to learn and unlearn.
S3kyerewaa : Do you have expectations for Gelem?
Korshi T : Nope, not necessarily. I just want to create music that feels natural and see where this journey takes us.
S3kyerewaa : Do you have dream collaborations you’d like to see happen?
Korshi T : At the moment I don’t really know, you know.
S3kyerewaa : Thank you so much for your time Korshi T. Wish you all the best in the coming years.
Korshi T : Thanks for having me.
