Kojo Kusi of Studio Kojo Kusi is one of the finest fashion designers from Kumasi, Ghana. His clothes are seamlessly sewed with detailed cuts & beautiful color palettes. We sat down with him to have brief a conversation.

730 Mag: Kojo Kusi, great to have this interview with you. How are you doing?

Kojo Kusi: Hello, I’m doing great. What about you?

730 Mag: Doing Awesome. Your pieces are so fire. Sewing your own stuff is really next level. When did you start sewing?

Kojo Kusi: Thank you! I started training as a tailor’s apprentice in 2018. It was supposed to be a 3yr long training but then I ticked every box before the second year.

730 Mag: Nice. Your Kwame Nkrumah piece is really a must have. What inspires your designs?

Kojo Kusi: My designs are inspired by my emotions, innovation and sometimes it’s just the beauty of making something.

730 Mag: You did some dope collabs with Kwaku DMC, Project Kumasi & The Mask DJ. Can you speak on it?

Kojo Kusi: Yeah it’s true, I had a collaboration with Kwaku DMC and ‘The Masked Dj’ but with Project Kumasi it wasn’t a collaboration I only worked on the production as a manufacturer.

730 Mag: Right! You mentioned in your Guap interview about Fashion getting the hype it deserves. Are you seeing some progress locally? And what do you think we can do better as an ecosystem?

Kojo Kusi: The fashion industry looks good at the moment and as you can see we have a lot of young brands coming up and that makes me happy. As an ecosystem all we can do now is to put out more content to maximize our chances of reaching a wider audience.

730 Mag: Will you dive more into womenswear in the future?

Kojo Kusi: My next project has a couple of women characters (looks) in it. I’m excited about it.

730 Mag: Any piece of advice for new designers looking up to you?

Kojo Kusi: Believe in yourself and don’t sleep on your ideas because they will save you.
