JUDE DONTOH ON TOGs 10th ANNIVESARY, NETWORKING, VIRGIL AND MORE.

Jude Dontoh is the founder of “Tribe of God”. One of the pacesetters of streetwear brands from Ghana. We caught up with him to have a brief conversation following the 10th Anniversary of TOG. He talks about his influences and more.

730 Mag: Jude, nice to have this brief convo with you. How are you feeling?

Jude: I’m good fam. How are you?

730 Mag: Doing good. Congratulations on Tribe of God’s 10th Anniversary & the pop-up show. The new pieces are fire. How’s your community receiving it?

Jude: Thank you so much. Feels like it was yesterday. They love it. Put a lot of effort into this drop.

730 Mag: You’ve been putting in work for years. Post pandemic, it was a domino effect where everything kept happening back to back. From working with Sony, Lauryn Hill, SDC, Wizkid and more. How important has networking been for your brand?

Jude: Thank you!!! When you put it like that seems like I don’t have a life outside my job…lol.

So important. Migrating into the right circles and markets has been very instrumental for me and TOG. I honestly can’t wait to see what the future holds. It’s going to be amazing.

730 Mag: Awesome. How were you exposed to fashion? And who were some of your earlier influences?

Jude: My parents used to put me on. I remember my mum used to get me a bunch of designer pieces whenever she could. I have tons of baby pictures with crazy fits.

But I think my affinity for the culture grew in my teens. Most definitely Kanye and Virgil were the people that influenced me the most. I spent hours watching interviews and shows.

730 Mag: S/o to your mum for keeping you fly!

Jude: All day!

730 Mag: What’s one thing Virgil (RIP) said in his interviews that’s been with you?

Jude: He said if off white is too expensive for you then good… make a brand to do better or replace it. Something along these lines if I’m not misquoting.

730 Mag: Apt!.. What’s your favorite fashion

accessory?

Jude: Right now, I’d say my divine speed jacket.

730 Mag: That’s a fire jacket. What’s your favorite TOG product ever? I mean, you can skip this lol.

Jude: Thank you very much… That’s tough. I’d say the Saint home jersey.

730 Mag: You’re definitely one of the pacesetters of streetwear fashion in Ghana. A little advice for the younger fashion designers?

Jude: Don’t do it bro. You can’t catch up to me lol…Nah for real, experiment and follow your dreams. Failure is just a step in the right direction.
